Rising Fast dead
PA Auckland. The famous race horse, Rising Fast, was found dead on a Te Awamutu farm yesterday momlnS' . 2. XU Rising Fast, winner of the Melbourne Cup in 1954 and of the Caulfield Cup in 1954 and 1955 and second in the Melbourne Cup in 1955, won in excess of $130,000 and won more than 25 races in Australia and New Zealand.
His owner, Mr L. R. Spring, of Whakatane, said when told the news by his son. Warwick Spring, of Te Awamutu, said: “I am at a loss for words. It’s like losing a member of the family.” Rising Fast was foaled in November. 1949, and was ridden in Australia by three iockevs, Bill Williamson. Jack Purtell. and Arthur Ward. Mr L. R. Spring said Rising Fast was buried yesterday and a ■■■o’-' ’ be set up to commemorate him,
