The courts Remanded on charges involving $15,700

A self-employed spray painter who appeared in the Magistrates Court before Mr P. J. McAloon S.M. yesterday on five charges of false pretence and one of theft involving a total of $15,700 was remanded on bail to August 1. The man, who was granted interim suppression of his name, entered no pleas. Sergeant R. H. Prouting said there was no objection to self bail which was set by the Magistrate at $750. The alleged false-pretence offences occurred between Feburary, 1976, and June, 1977.

George Sydney Heyrick, aged 46, a freezing worker, Was remanded to August 8 on a charge of making a false statement. It is alleged that on July 17 in a written statement made to a police officer, Heyrick, contrary to the facts, alleged that a motor car had been stolen. Bail of $3OO was allowed. DISORDERLY BEHAVIOUR A passenger in a car who pointed an imitation pistol out of the window at the heaJ of a motor-cyclist at traffic lights was convicted and fined $3O. ARMS CHARGE A timber precutter was remanded without plea to August 1 on a charge laid under the Arms Act. Gary Owen Cameron, aged 23, is charged with the possession of a .38 calibre Smith and Wesson pistol while not being authorised or permitted. The alleged offence occurred on Monday.
