Good bowls start
Two prominent Christchurch lawn bowlers. Sonny Calder (Linwood* and Roy Bailey (Mount Pleasant), have made a successful start to a bowls holiday on Queensland's Gold Coast. As a pair, and with Bailey skipping. they recently w’on a tournament restricted to New Zealanders or expatriate New Zea landers, the number on hand being large enough for a sizeable tournament to be staged. The event was played on a section and post-section basis and in , the final Calder and Bailey had a clearcut. 35-14. victory. They arc now contesting the much* larger Gold Coast winter tournament. which runs for two weeks.
