Conference levy up to $500,000
From J. J. BOYLE Wellington, The New Zealand Racing; Conference’s levy on racing ■ clubs for the next year will! be $500,000. This was an-' nounced at the annua? general meeting of con-, ference delegates. Mr Arthur Hughes, whc was re-elected president of I the conference, said that ris-i ing costs in administering racing was reflected in theincrease from last year’s levy of $475,000. Two years ' earlier it had been $440,000. , Messrs Bernie Kelly (Tara-| naki) and Bill Quirk <Canter bury) were successful can- ! didates in the election for; representatives to the New] Zealand Racing Authority! and Mr Jack Bennett (Manawatu) defeated Mr. Bill I Thompson (Southland) in the election for the position on] the Totalisator Agency > Board. Unsuccessful candidates ini the election for positions on| the Authority were Messrs Frank Plunkett (Winton) and* Mr Cecil Wallis (Dunedin). • Mr E. W.
