Flights to mark club anniversary

A formation flight over Ashburton, Christchurch and Rangiora on Friday will mark the start of the Canterbury Aero Club’s fiftieth anniversary celebrations. The club’s entire fleet will fly about 300 m above Christchurch, in two low circuits of the city, on Friday at noon and again on Sunday about 1.45 p.m. The flyover on Sunday will leave out Ashburton. It will be followed by an air pageant at Rangiora Airfield at 2 p.m. Aerobatics, and handling and flying displays by gliders, top-dressing aircraft and helicopters will be included in the pageant. On Saturday the public will be invited to take local flights at an open day. ■ About 300 guests are expected to attend a formal dinner on Saturday evening, at which the guest speaker will be Wing Commander lan Dick, A.F.C., formerly of Christchurch and now at R.A.F. base, Peterborough, in Britain.
