Pan Am sponsors rich New Brighton event
Details of new sponsorship for the New Brighton Trotting Club next season were released last evening by the club’s president, Mr Bruce Woods, after the annual meeting last evening. The club’s new sponsors are Pan American World Airways and Stars World Marketing, the company which acts as the airline’s sales agency outside of Auckland. The event which the sponsors will stipport is to be known as the Pan Am Mile, a race which will carry staike money of $17,500, plus $lO,OOO should the winner break the New Zealand record for the distance. It is to be run at the club’s meeting on December 2.
The Pan Am Mile will replace the Stars Travel Miracle Mile, which has been one of the club’s feature races for the last seven years. The conditions of the the conditions of the sponsorship will run for three years and Pan Am are hopeful of increasing the sponsorship if the promotion warrants it. The conditions of the Pan Am Mile will be the same as for the Stars Travel
Miracle Mile. Invitations toj nominate will be extended to] contenders during the season) in an attempt to build up interest in the race, which in it’s present form has been established as the premier mile race in New Zealand. In the seven contests for the Stars Travel Miracle Mile to date the New Zea land record has been broke: twice and on every occasior has the event been run ii. two minutes or less.
