Mairehau H.S. wins vital match
Mairehau High School won a vital, top-of-the-tabie match against Mairehau A in the Christchurch flrst division women’s basketball competition on Saturday. It was a fast, open, running encounter but put little emphasis on defensive skills.
Mairehau High School started to good effect when Donna Broughton helped to set up play from a mid-court position and worked the ball to Rayne Cassidy, who scored frequently with variety of shots. Mairehau High’s 10-point lead was reduced to six (33-27) by half-time. Mairehau A closed the gap to four points (39-35) but Mairehau High rallied and maintained its grip on the match. Jeanette Howard, the Canterbury' and New Zealand representative, played one of her best games, scoring 30 points. Ravne Cassidy scored 20 points.
