Irish win first game
Hamilton
The Irish University rugby union team opened its New Zealand tour with a 20-18 win over Waikato University at Hamilton yesterday.
In fine weather on a firm ground, the Irish led 16-12, at half-time. Both wings, Paul Joyce and Chris Gardner, scored tries.
Waikato got to within a point of the visitors soon after the resumption, but with the end in sight, Gardner scored a second try.
