Housing policy review
The effects of new housing policies introduced this year, both in the Budget and the February package, were among topics discussed recently by Housing Corporation branch managers in Wellington. The 11 managers were attending their main annual conference at the corporation’s head office with the Director General, Mr E. J. Babe, and his staff. Present to welcome them to the three-day conference
was the Minister of Housing, Mr E. S. F. Holland, seen here with the deputy manager in charge of lending in Christchurch, Mr A. E. Carson (left), the Napier manager, Mr E. C. Smith, and the manager in Hamilton. Mr A. R. Brain (extreme right). The conference agenda covered new Government policy, its implementation and effects, as well as the corporation’s own rental, building and lending functions, and general adminis-
trative and staff problems. Items for consideration on the first morning’s agenda, part of which the Minister stayed to participate in, included the Budget announcements of changes to pensioner housing finance and tied accommodation eligibility; the need to promote home improvement loans to improve New Zealand’s housing stock; and urban renewal proposals which are currently under consideration.
