Left turn on red light?

Christchurch motorists may soon be able to make a left

turn on a red light as part of an experiment to determine whether the practice, which is common in North America, is applicable to New Zealand. The Automobile Association (Canterbury) has been told that the Christchurch City Council’s chief traffic engineer (Mr M. L. Gadd) has offered to conduct an experiment in Christchurch to test the success of allowing left turns on the red signal.
