Close basketball to Checkers

Checkers narrowly defeated Y.M.C.A., 62-60. in the tenth round of the Canterbury first division men’s basketball championship at Cowles Stadium last evening. It was a particularly tense encounter and the outcome was in doubt until the final hooter. Y.M.C.A. led. 30-25, at half-time and it was not until after 14min of the second half that Checkers managed to level the scores at 50-all,.
