Bowls to Hornby pair
The Hornby Working Men's Club’s Bruce Gray and Leon McLennan received some compensation for not going to Auek- • land for the New Zealand working men’s clubs’ championships last week when they added the prestigious Osborne pairs title to their 1977 South Island pairs title yesterday,. But not without a stern fight from Northcote’s Owen and Ben Tomlinson. The scores were tied three times during the final, 4-all. 5-alI, and 7-alI, but McLennan scored a two and three to win, 12-9. Bev Tomlinson had to fight hard to head off Stewart White in their semi-final after White had scored a four and a three to open the game. After seven ends. Mrs Tomlinson tied the scores at 9-all and scored a two and a single io win. 12-9. ' The other semi-final was a complete contrast when Evelyn
Scott met the very experience; i Leon McLennan. The score were tied at 4-all after six end and McLennan had to fight han to score singles en the last twt ■ ends to win, 6-4.
