Japan prepares defence plan
NZPA-Reuter Tokyo The Japanese armed forces, for the first time since ( World War Two have been ordered to prepare a comprehensive plan for the defence of the country against foreign attack, a Japanese Defence Agency spokesman has said. The study, ordered by the Defence Minister Shin Kane- ! mari, is a measure of how i public opinion has swung ■away from its former aver-
sion to the military follow-; ing the defeat of the nation in World War Two. Until now the staffs of the three armed services have made individual, unofficial (studies of how they would react against external aggression. But they have never been ordered to make a comprehensive Joint plan because of punhc opinion as (expressed through Parlia-: ■mentary Opposition parties. !
