Authority ‘not consulted’
i The Local Government { Commission has been critiIcised by the Canterbury Re-.’ igional Planning Authority: because the authority was not consulted before a provisional West Coast regional scheme was mooted. The authority noted that it had objected to the provisional scheme in August, 1977, along with all other provisional regional schemes. Now. in a letter from the commission, the authority :has been advised that objections will be heard from Julv 12. At its executive meeting, the authority advised that it had made several representai tions to the commission (about the procedures being 1 followed in formulating and issuing provisional schemes, and their subsequent formulation. The authority emphasised its views in letters to the! commission on March 30,1 and again on May 8, this’
7 year but at this stage it is ■ not known if its views have -{been put before the full 'commission for consid- ; erarion. The authority's executive I committee has authorised the chairman (Mr D. B Rich) to write to the com- ■ mission again, advising "that , it was understood that when • the new commission took i office it would work closely with the authorities affected, i and it was with surprise ‘ that this authority had re- ■ ceived information of a pro- ■ posed hearing on the originally proposed West Coast , scheme.” : The authority will also ■ seek information from the i commission as to when it ; intends to “consider the 1 overriding issues of the ap- . propriateness and prac- • ticality of regional planning to the various divisions nf; I the country, and to discuss! ■{these with authorities experienced on and affected by! s'them.”
