Police hunt former fellow

I They issued a recent photo-, ] graph of Riley, a former i C. 1.8. detective sergeant, and said that hopes of an early ] arrest had not been fulfilled, j The acting chief of the j C. 1.8., Detective Sergeant W. ] Holmes, said that Riley was wanted “for being knowingly involved in the importation | iof Buddha sticks, or cannabis.”
Riley, aged 52. was not aboard the yacht Anoa which ; I allegedly picked up the • drugs on an uninhabited island and brought them to Australia, Mr Holmes said. Ten men and a woman (have been charged with ■offences relating to the drug importation. Riley gained prominence as a doubles sculler when, ; with the present police com.missioner, Mr M. Wood, he i won events at two Empire Games (1950 and 1954) and an Olympic bronze medal ] (1965). i He resigned from the police ] force in February 7 1962. and I five years later served a 12month sentence in New Zea- . land for trying to bribe a police officer. He was later deported to Australia.
