High confidence level
Economic confidence continues to rise, the National Research Bureau has found. It says the pre-Bud-get May reading taken for the N.R.B. Confidence Index showed that confidence had risen by four points from March to its highest level since November 1975. However, social confidence remains static. The index is compiled from measurements made
by the bureau of public feelings about their present and future personal economic situation, and present and future social and environmental conditions. Bi-monthly surveys are made of 2200 randomly selected New Zealanders aged 15 and over. Index values of 0-49 reflect pessimism and 51-100 optimism. Economic confidence is at present relatively high-
est among men, aged 15 to ' 24, and in Dunedin provin- ' cial areas; and relatively | lowest among women, ' aged 45 to 54, and in Christchurch city. Social confidence is rela- , tively highest among men, j aged 15 to 24, and in 1 Auckland provincial areas; j and relatively lowest among women, aged 45 to 54, and in Christchurch j provincial areas. — Copy- ’ right.
