Port staff get 4 p.c. rise
PA Auckland A short-term award providing harbour board workers with a 4 per cent wage increase has been agreed in Auckland. The Harbour Board Employees’ Union and the employers took eight days in conciliation and two days of informal discussions to reach agreement. A threat of a five-day
I strike was issued by the union during the negoti- ■ ations.’ - The award, backdated to‘ ! April 28, will run for eight months, to bring its expiry date into line with other ■ waterfront awards. Apart from the 4 per cent i over-all wage increase, sub- ! tantial increases were also i negotiated for harbour board clerical workers and for ■ tradesmen.
