Conciliator thanked
PA Wellington The Minister of Labour (Mr Gordon) has paid tribute to Mr Walter Grills, the Industrial Mediator involved in the talks aimed at settling the Makarewa and Ocean Beach freezing works disputes in Southland. The success in bringing about a settlement of the complex issues was largely due to Mr Grills, he said yesterday. Mr Grills is Industrial Mediator for the OtagoSouthland area. For the last four months he had been working on the problems of the industry, said Mr Gor-I don. “On Thursday alone he was involved in something like 12 hours of continuous talks which enabled both management and union officials to agree to a formula for a resumption of work at both freezing works on Monday. “1 am indebted to Mr Grills for the manner in which he was able to bring about this settlement," said 'Mr Gordon.
