Woman seeks jail sentence
PA Auckland A young woman ran barebreasted down Quay Street in Auckland yesterday because she wanted to be arrested so that she would have somewhere to sleep,[ the Magistrate’s Court was! told. Kelly Elizabeth Te Huna, I aged 20, admitted a charge; of disorderly behaviour. [ ‘‘l’ll give you somewhere, to sleep.” said Mr J. S. CaiTander, S.M., as he sentenced her to 14 days jail. Te Huna swore at the! Magistrate as she left the; dock. Sergeant. I. Hanley said that Te Huna removed a; book from a display stand in : a bus terminal shop, and; 1 told the proprietor she; ’wanted to be arrested be-; :cause she had nowhere to; sleep.
The police were called but l the book was returned before they arrived. When she discovered that, she would not be arrested,! Te Huna used obscene lan-; guage to the police and the; shop proprietor. While being; escorted to the wharf police! station, she removed her top. and skirt but once there; calmed down and dressed! again, said Sergeant Hanley. 1
I Shortly after, on leaving the station, she removed her ) clothes again and ran barebreasted into traffic in Quay ' Street. She was then arrested. Sergeant Hanley said that |Te Huna claimed to live off I the proceeds of prostitution.
