FARM MANAGER PAKIHI DEMONSTRATION FARM, WESTPORT APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED for the above position. The farm, situated 4km from Westport, consists of 240 ha of oversown pakihi soils, at present carrying 2000 Coopworth ewes and 150 Angus breeding cows. It is fully fenced with a piped water supply to each 8 ha paddock. Buildings are in good order and the farm is well equipped. The house is approximately 6 years old. in excellent condition in a well laid out and maintained section. There is a small separate office and a modern self contained single man’s quarters. School bus at gate. The objectives of the farm are to show that pakihi development on the West Coast is a sound economic proposition. Policy is set by a management committee and overall supervision is the responsibility of the Farm Advisory Officer at West port. The success of this farm will have a marked influence on the future development and settlement of large areas of similar soils on the West Coast and for this reason a highly skilled and competent manager is essential. An annual field day is held on the farm and group visits and individual visits are common. The manager must be primarily able to achieve high performance from stock, be able to plan and supervise all farm activities and keep full and accurate records. Conditions of employment are similar to those of the Department of Lands and Survey for managers of development blocks. Commencing wage would be $144.64 per week with a free house, free telephone, meat, milk and power allowances and $8 per year for each of 2 dogs to be supplied by the manager.
