Blyth switches to Woolston
The former Trans Tours United full-back, Lawrie Blyth, has joined Woolston W.M.C. but will not be involved in tomorrow’s Adidas Challenge Trophy soccer match against Rangers. Because of injury, Blyth has not played for United in the Rothmans League this season. Therefore the usual complications that arise when a player wishes to switch clubs in the Rothmans League during a season were averted.
The Woolston coach (Mr Terry Mann) has undoubtedly taken into consideration Blyth’s wealth of experience at top level and his presence will add pressure to the Woolston full-backs, Steve Smith, and the Hendry brothers, Brian and David. While at United, Blyth won league and cup-winners’ medals and his transfer means that both Christchurch sides in the Rothmans League are represented at the Conley and Blyth sports shop.
