Eleven offences admitted

Greymouth reporter Eleven charges relating to offences in Greymouth, Blenheim, and Christchurch between May 13 and May 29 were admitted by an unemployed fisherman in the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth yesterday before Mr B. A. Palmer, S.M. William John Crooks, aged 19, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering Winters’ School Store at Karoro, Ballins Industries, Ltd, in Pre= stons Road, the Red Lion Hotel, Hokitika, and to unlawfully taking a van in Christchurch, and a car in Blenheim, to stealing two lots of aviation fuel valued at $l3 and $45 at Greymouth, attempting to burgle two flats in Bealey Avenue, Christchurch, and to breaking into one flat in the street and to stealing a car radio at Christchurch. The defendant had been apprehended after a highspeed chase in the converted car, said Sergeant R. T. Gutberlet. He had admitted all the offences. The defendant was convicted and remanded to this afternoon for a probation officer’s report and sentence. TWO BURLGARIES Reginald Walter Curtis, iaged 20, a forestry worker, I (Mr D. L. Carruthers) admitted charges of breaking into the factory of Bricklite Ve[neers, Ltd, in Christchurch, ion September 22, and the :Opawa Shoe Store on December 23. The defendant had been challenged at the shoe store after two louvres of a window had been removed, Sergeant Gutberlet told the Court. The defendant was convicted and remanded on bail to July 19 for a probation officer’s report and sentence.
