Lyttelton to seek sewerage loan
The first stage of Lyttelton’s $1.25M sewerage scheme was set in motion on Monday when the Lyttelton Borough Council agreed to seek permission from the Local Authorities Loans Board to raise a $lOO,OOO loan.
Stage one will eliminate two of Lyttelton’s three outfalls into the harbour, and will concentrate all the discharge at Sticking Point, on the seaward side of Cashin Quay. This will take the outfalls away from recreational areas, and will pave the way for a treatment station at the one remaining outlet. All-told, stage one will cost about $160,000; $47,800 will come from Health Department subsidies, and the balance from revenue. ARRIVALS Nil. DEPARTURES Nil.
