Radio staff together
The fast construction by! Williams Construction Canterbury, Ltd, has left Radio New Zealand a trifle flat-footed. News. current affairs, rural broadcasting, accounts and sport will move into the new building on July 8, a.nd other sections in August. This means that for the first time in Christchurch Radio New Zealand, at present scattered around five buildings, will be in one building. Radio New’ Zealand will lease the first three floors of
four-storeyed Kent House, to) be officially opened by the) Prime Minister (Mr Mui-) doon) today. i The completion of the) building marks the end of, the first stage of devel-1 opment of the former Blackwell Motors site by Williams Development Holdings. Ltd. 1 Complete development of [the block provides for the erection of five more buildings. Instead of working in I dungeon-like studios with ; thick concrete walls in the
middle of buildings, staff | will be able to look out ) through double-glazed windows. “Noise tests over the last ; two days have resulted in I excellent performances,” said the supervising engineer in charge of studio planning and development (Mr G. E. Moriarty'), of Wellington. Radio New Zealand announcers will see the world go by when they move into new Christchurch headquarters soon. Kent House in Montreal Street, worth S2M and built in 12 months, will incorporate a new type of sound-proofed wall. Based on modern office partitioning, but with three ) cores and two air spaces, the wails have enabled designers to site broadcasting rooms on the side of the building.
