Residents want land

More than 1800 Bishopdale residents want a piece lof Crown land on the west ’side of the Isleworth Primary School, transferred to the Waimairi County Council for use as a public park. They want it designated as "neighbourhood open space, i for school use. occasional sporting events, and passive ’ recreation." A petition and submissions to this effect will be presented to the Lands and Agriculture Select Committee at Parliament Buildings tomorrow by one of the signatories, Mr R. G. ArmMr Armstrong said the title to the 2.8328 ha area was held by the Department of Education. At present, the land was used by the Isleworth Primary School as playing fields, for combined sports activities by local primary schools, by local organisations, and by family groups. Mr Armstrong said it had been indicated about six vears ago that when the Isleworth school roll had 1 dropped and relocatable classrooms had been removed from the school grounds, leaving more space for play ing fields, the title of the adjoining land could be handed to another Gov-, ernment department, possible the Housing Corporation, for sub-dividing for housing.
