Trade talks with Iran
PA Wellington, Trade talks between New Zealand and Iranian officials began in Wellington yester-l day. The Iranian delegation of four is led by Mr B. Nozari,! senior adviser to the Minister of Economic Affairs and: Finance, and the New Zea-' land delegation is headed by| Mr M. W. Craig, Acting As* sistant Secretary of Trade! and Industry. E
The last trade talks be-' tween the two countries’ were in 1976. when the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Taiboys) was in Tehran. “Meetings such as these provide an opportunity for
discussions on expanding I trade and economic relations, between New Zealand and: Iran,” said the Acting Minis-! ter of Overseas Trade (Mr Schneider) yesterday. Two-way trade between [the two countries rose from I just over SII2M in 1974-75 ito almost SIB2M in 1976-77. I New Zealand exports to [lran in the nine months to [March 31 this vear totalled i 549.5 M.
Of this, lamb sales ■amounted to S37M and wool 'almost 59.5 M. Imports from Iran, mostly petroleum products, totalled! almost S63M in the nine' months.
