Good start to week
Good gains were made by the uranium, leading mining, and some of the speculative stocks on Australian stock exchanges yesterday while HHP rose to a new high for the year among the industrials. Brokers said the recovery which became evident on Friday was continuing, but now needed good overseas support to keep it going. With the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) drawing attention to Australia’s uraniums reserves during his European trip, uranium shares made good gains. Peko put on 14c to 560 c while E.Z.I. rose 5c to 245 c, and Kathleen Investments gained 10c to 215 c. Western Mining was actively sought, with a turnover exceeding 410,000 after the latest report on the Benambra copper. W.M.C. shares gained 7c to a high of 163 c — then eased back to close at 1.59 c.
The oil shale partners Central and Southern Pacific were in demand after Friday’s annual meeting at
which shareholders were 'given details of plans to extract oil from the Rundle I deposits.
