New group to study commerce laws
PA Wellington The Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr AdamsSchneider) has announced the establishment of a special working party to examine legislation administered by his department. The Minister said it was appropriate from time to time to examine existing legislation and administrative procedures to see whether the needs of both the commercial communitv and consumers were being served adequately.
The Cabinet had agreed that a working party should be appointed to carry out this »»'k. he said.
The working party had been asked to study consumer needs in the areas of information. advertising, sales, and service practices and the best means, where necessary, of obtaining redress. The working party will be chaired by the directorgeneral of the Manufacturers’ Federation (Mr H. E. J. Martin).
Other members will be the executive director of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association (Mr M. J. Thompson). the director of the Consumers' Institute (Mr R. J. Smithies), the executive director of the Retailers’ Feder* ation (Mr B. I. Purdy), and a business consultant, Mr J. K. W. Isles.
