‘Men of Affairs’
A new British comedy series, Men of Affairs, starring Warren Mitchell (of Alf Garnett fame) and Brian Rix, begins tonight on SPTV. Mitchell, with a new and luxuriant moustache and a toupee given to slipping, plays Sir William Mainwaring Brown, senior Cabinet Minister. Brian Rix appears as Barry Ovis, the artless junior politician destined always to be the unhappy butt of his Minister’s doubledealing and double talk. principles or integrity.
Together they share a series of disasters, in and out of Parliament, that threaten to bring their careers, and possibly the Government, crashing. Sir William is a smooth, cynical womaniser with a lust for publicity that goes quite unhindered by either principles or integrity. Barry Ovis is afflicted by both, and suffers the additional handicap of seeing everything he touches turn to trouble.
