Might need softer going before getting to his best again. 14 2030 SHURADE (8) 52. Came back from a spell to finish third over 1600 m at Te Rapa on May 13 but well beaten meanwhile at Rotorua. Stays well at best. 15 3211 COMMUNIQUE Runaway winner at last two starts in intermediate middledistances at Te Rapa and Paeroa. Down 7kg in weight for this tougher one. Well beaten when resuming racing after a layoff at 1200 m at Rotorua on May 27 but should have improved with the run. Worth attention. 2 0000 INKY'S GOLD (15) 57. One of the best winter sprinters last year which has had firm tracks right against him in his attempt at a comeback. Unlikely to show much improvement unless the ground softens considerably. S. Autridge 3 60 PREFER (12) 56. Good middle-distance runner which made a fresh start against the sprinters at Rotorua on May 27. Outpaced then and could be expected to need another race or two. J. Grylls 4 0490 GUEST STAR (18) 55. Excellent stayer but hardly likely to rinse the speed for this distance in first start for six months. R. Tucket 5 1080 PURA SETA (14) 55. Had first start after a long spell against the sprinters at Rotorua on May 27. This will be first race meanwhile. Hardly likely at this stage. 6 000 LORD NOVELLO (5) 54.5. Has failed to show up in his few starts since back from a let-up. Well back over 1200 m at Ellerslie last Saturday. Probably needs softer ground.

Stayed on gamely behind Redan in sprint at Ellerslie • last Monday and also third to Better Be Good over 1606 m at Ellerslie on June 3. 9 3224 LUCK ROONA (16) 54. Consistent and due to win at any time. Good fourth over 1600 m at Ellerslie on Monday behind Ross Rula after pacemaking. On a softer track would be one to beat. T. Williams 10 78 BRUREE (22) 53. Has run fairly in two starts since back from spell. Improver but likely to need more distance. D. Peake 11 0 KAUERE LAD (9) 53. Capable in winter ground but will very likely need this one, his second race after a fair spell. Finished near rear at Ellerslie on May 6. T. Autridge 12 6607 DUMAR (13) 52.5. Good performer in winter ground but resuming here after spell of 12 months. One of the more interesting candidates. A. Campbell
