‘Real issues’
Abortion was being used to divide the community and divert attention from the real issues of unemployment and the economy, the convention was told. A remit recommending that the Woman concerned be the person responsible for the final decision about an abortion was rejected by a sub-
stantial majority. The remit was submitted by the Hastings branch, and added two conditions: that , the woman must seek her doctor’s advice after the (twelfth week; and that an independent source of counsel and assistance with real alternatives to abortion be offered.
