Hanmer marble

Directors of Thomas Andrews and Son, Ltd, have denied a report that supplies of Hanmer marble stone have run out. The managing director (Mr R. Andrews) said that the company was still quarrying the stone, which had a New Zealand-wide market. “There are millions of tonnes of it,” he said. The stone is worked most weeks.

The company leased a mine from the Canterbury Stone Company, Ltd, and worked it most week-ends, said Mr Andrews.

In a report in “The Press” of Saturday it was said that supplies of Hanmer marblestone had run out.
