N.Z. Pacific launched
NZPA Bremen New Zealand’s long-term commitment to trade with Europe has been dramatically emphasised with the launching of the New Zealand Pacific, the multi-million dollar container flagship of the New Zealand Shipping Corporation. The huge grey steel hull of the 45,000-tonne vessel which moved quickly down the slipway at the BremerVulkan shipyard at Bremen represented a vote of confidence of more than SIIOM by the Gcrvernment through the State-owned corporation in the Euope-New Zealand trade The traditional bottle of champagne was broken against the hull by Mrs Hazel McLachlan, wife of the Minister of Transport, but it was some minutes before the vessel began to move.
