H.A.R.T. opposes sports tours

The Government should state total opposition to decisions by the New Zealand gliding, softball, and. golf associations 10 compete in tournaments with South Africa in July, said the- national chairman of the Halt All Racist Tours organisation (Mr Trevor Richards). In a letter to the secretary of the National Party caucus, Mr Richards said that the Government had retreated steadily from the principles and provisions of the Gleneagles Agreement. As far as H.A.R.T. was aware, the Government had taken no action to dissuade the golf, gliding, and women’s softball associations from competing alongside South Africa in July. H.A.R.T. has asked the Government to state publicly its support, for the agreement, and to seek urgent meetings with the golf and softball authorities to try to dissuade them from participating in the tournaments. The Min-

ister of Recreation (Mr Highet) has been asked to ensure that the gliding association will not receive financial support for the July tournament.
