Catchment rates up 17.5%
The North Canterbury > Catchement Board yesterday: authorised collection of 5984.841 in rates from its 18 constituent councils, a total increase of 17.5 per cent —! about the same as increases: in the previous two years. : The sum of $362,172 will be levied on the Christ- I church City district, I $164,488 on the Waimairi County district, $146,572 on! the Paparua County district,' and $64,745 on the Ellesmere: County district. Ellesmere and Paparua rate contributions are: swelled by the number of I works in those areas compared with other districts.
In the main, the greater part of the levies on individual councils will meet! administrative costs of the board’s operations. In Christchurch city, $278,365 will be levied for adminis-j tration, and the balance of: $83,807 for works on the. Waimakariri, Eyre, and Cust, Rivers and reserves. In Pa-; parua County, $70,427 will: be levied for administration.' and the balance on the Wai-i makariri. Cust, and Eyre! Rivers account ($19,462), i Halswell River ($551929), | and Lake Ellesmere ($754). In Waimairi, $123,894 will: be levied for administration,! and the balance of $40,594, for the Waimakariri, Eyre,; Cust account. In the Elies-: mere district, $29,903 will be raised for administration and: the balance spread over Waimakariri, Eyre, Cust, and| Halswell, Lake Ellesmere,J and Selwyn rivers and reserves.
As a rating increase for administration only, amounts as decimals of a cent in the dollar on the capital value of all rateable property for the four highest contributors are: Christchurch City, Waimairi. and Paparua, .015; and! for Ellesmere, .028.
