Hospital Board appointments

The North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday announced two substantial changes in its senior medical administrative positions. Dr R. A. Fairgray, who is medical superintendent of Christchurch Hospital, has been appointed to the fulltime position of deputy medical superintendent-m--chief to the board, with responsibility for planning matters.

In his present position Dr Fairgrav has part-time responsibility as deputy medical superintendent-in-chief to the board. The position of medical superintendent of Christchurch Hospital will be advertised nationally todav.

Dr Fairgray, who graduated in medicine in 1954 and obtained his diploma in public health in 1967, is an associate fellow of the Institute of Management. Before joining the board in 1969, he was

deputy medical superintendent of Middlemore Hospital. He was in general practice from 1957 until 1966.

Dr Margaret Guthrie, who is assistant medical .superin-tendent-in-chief to the board and medical superintendent of Burwood Hospital, has been appointed medical superintendent of Princess Margaret Hospital. She will continue as assistant medical superintendent-in-chief to the board.

Dr Guthrie replaces Dr R. C. S. Dick, who will retire as medical superintendent of The Princess Margaret Hospital in July. Dr Guthrie, who graduated in medicine in 1951, also has a science degree and in 1976 completed a diploma in health administration at Massey University. She has spent some years in private practice, and from 1963 until 1973 was a civilian medical officer in the Air Force.
