11 NZPA Austin (Texas) Pressure from home, a ’(low grade, and relentless j![teasing by a teacher are " being offered as reasons why [the 13-year-old son of a former Presidential press secretary walked into a classroom with a rifle and killed his instructor. Classmates of John Daniel Christian, son of George Christian, press secretary to President Lyndon Johnson, [were on Saturday recovering ' from the scene they witj nessed the day before in I Christian’s junior high j school English class in Austin, Texas. [' The youths watched as [Christian stood at the door lof the room, raised a rifle and fired three times at Wil- [ bur Rodney Grayson, aged [29, killing him. “He was so upset with | that unsatisfactory mark,” a [ classmate said, referring to | a grade Mr Grayson had [given Christian. “He was really anxious about getting i into a really good college. I [mean like Harvard or something. Everybody did that in [his family.” [ Some classmates said Mr I Grayson — a favourite [ ! among the pupils — used to (tease Christian a lot as well [as other pupils. [ Christian faces prosecution for juvenile delinquency in the shooting. [Under Texas law a minor •under 15 years old cannot be ' charged with a crime as an ; adult.
