Union cars bombed
NZPA Sydney Bombings will n.ot silence the voice of the trade-union movement, Mr Merv Hawkins, the New South Wales secretary of the Australian Postal and Telecommunications Union, has said.
A bomb exploded near Mr Hawkins’s car, which was parked next to his home at the Sydney suburb of Cromer. Six minutes later, another explosive ripped through the car belonging to the union’s state president, Mr Noel Battese, at his house at Fairfield. The bombs caused extensive damage to both vehicles, peppering the surrounding areas with fragments of metal and broken glass. Mr Hawkins has said he is unaware of the motive of the bombers.
