NZPA Brisbane The Sydney driver, Alan Griee, swept te viet*n- in the opening round of the Australian sports sedan championship yesterday after surviving a lap-by-lap duel with the expatriate New Zealander, Jim Richards. at the Surfers Paradise international raceway. briving the Craven Mild Chev. Con-air, Grid, who had started from pole position, led from start te finish in both IS-lap heats. Richards, driving his new 980 h.p. Ford Falcon VI, closely shadowed the leader in his rearmachine.
Richards established a new lap record of tmin 13.6 sec, shattering the previous best time set by Alan Meffat in 1»7« ef Imin 15.2 see. '
