Trade with Chile
Sir. — Your correspondent, J. I. Beckett (May 17) too readily criticises our Federation of Labour for its trade ban.on Chile without exploring the reasons for this action. Since the murder of President Allende and the overthrow of his democratically elected Government by the C.1.A.-backed, Right-wing fascist military junta, the Chilean people have suffered by the violation of human rights in order that the junta can maintain its damnable regime. I fully support our F.O.L. in their leading stand, and I am only saddened that our Government does not have the courage or principle to support this stand. — Yours, etc.,
C. K. HAMPTON. May 18, 1978.
