Quiet market firms
After a slow start share prices moved ahead in afternoon trading on Australian markets yesterday. B.H.P. rose 2c to 650 c the Bank of New South Wales was also 2c dearer at 534 c, and other banking stocks improved. However, C.S.R. eased 1c to 289 c, and the retailers were also out of favour. Hooker eased 1c to 74c, but Pioneer Concrete rose 2c to 148 c.
Coals were in demand, as were uraniums, but oils weakened a little.
Bougainville gave up 2c to 118 c but M.1.M., B.H. South, and North Broken Hill rose.
