1080 poison
Sir, — I suggest that Mark D. Sadler’s information for his comments on 1080 is inaccurate. A large fur industry already exists in this country. The fact that Mr Sadler’s friend makes a precarious living substantiates that private operators account for a very small percentage of the opossum population in any given area. As private operators are unable to deal with opossums in inaccessible areas the use of 1080 applied by aircraft plays an important role in pest destruction. As a person in constant touch with 1080 I can assure Mr Sadler and others that 1080’s advantages far outweigh its disadvantages in comparison with other poisons. Not being a cumulative poison, 1080 is very safe to use and I hope that those persons who are ill informed about its properties and use do not hinder its use in pest destruction. — Yours, etc., G. T. MARTIN,
Culverden. May 3, 1978.
