Napiat appeals at Winton
Special correspondent Invercargill The farm-trained Otautau stablemates. Napiat and Shift Time, give the successful amateur trainer. John Carran. a formidable hand in the Ron Rico Rum Handicap, first leg of the TAB. double at the Winton Joekey Club’s meeting at Invercargill today. Both have been a model of consistency in their latest racin’, having maintained their form at the end of the season a lot better than most in their grade. Napiat. the top-weight, will be a popular first choice on the strength of his last-start success at Wyndham. The distance of 1400 m is one he is particularly favoured by, having compiled a first-class record this season over the journey. Shift time started on both days of the Otago meeting last month finishing third on Anzac Day and runner-up to Ernest over 1200 m on the second day. Most opposition for the stablemates could be provided by the capable light-weights. Flambee D’Or and Wee Redlo. both of which looked above average in the lower grade.
