Papering hints
There is nothing that freshens and transforms a room so as new wallpaper. Pre-pasted papers have meant a revolution in home-decorating and increased the numbers of people who are willing to tackle the job of doing their own papering. Here are some helpful hints for beginners — 1. When using pre-pas-ted wallpapers submerge the measured length in a trough of tepid water, (or if you are papering in the bathroom, in the bath). Make sure the roll has the pattern side inside. 2. Allow 10cm (four inches) on every length for trimming at top and bottom. Do not trim the paper until it is finally placed and straightened.
3. Take the trouble to use a plpmb line to find the vertical. 4. Smooth the paper onto the wall with downward strokes, from the centre. 5. Work out pattern matching carefully before cutting the length from the roll . 6. To work around light-switches, turn power off, remove switch plate, and cut diagonal slits over the opening. Trim and replace the plate. For wallpaper that needs pasting, most of the same rules apply. Remember that heavier papers should be left to absorb the paste for longer than lighter papers. Read the instructions carefully for absorbtion.
