Fluoridation
Sir, — I do not object to fluoridation for the reasons outlined in an article by Briar Cambourn. Fluoridation is simply a remedy to allow big business to exploit the ignorant. Public money spent on fluoridation plants and water treatment would be better spent on a public health education programme to remedy fluoride deficiency by dietary means. Of course, such a programme would discourage excessive intakes of sweets, soft drinks, ice-cream, cakes and biscuits. The outcry from vested interests would be such that fluoridation is offered as the palliative that allows the rich to get richer at the expense of the health of the poor. — Yours, etc., D. W. O. JONES. May 4, 1978.
