National Party reactions
Sir, — Your correspondent, H. R. Peers, (May 2) has a wonderful way with words, and his recent letter to these columns was a delight to read. I must also express gratified surprise that “The Press” was fairminded enough to publish Mr Peers’s views which were, in fact, a scathing indictment of the performance of the Muldoon Government. I had been led to believe by a television interview screened a few days ago featuring the new editor that the editorial policy of the newspaper in this election year would remain pro-con-servative — this being a euphemism for pro-National. It is indeed good to see that
Mr Muldoon has not yet succeeded in stifling free speech in New Zealand: congratulations and thanks Mr Editor and Mr Peers. — Yours, etc., R, L. PLUCK. May 2, 1978.
