If the Broadcasting Tribunal grants their applications for warrants, the Canterbury Broadcasting Company and Radic Rhema will lose no time in getting on the air.
The applications were heard in Christchurch, and decisions are expected within the next few weeks. The tribunal recently granted a warrant to Radio Manukau, Auckland. to be directed by Gordon Dryden. If its plans go smoothly and there is no appeal against the tribunal’s decision, the Canterbury Broadcasting Company could be on air within about five months of a favourable ruling. There is a 14-day period after the decision is announced in which appeals may be lodged. These are heard by the Supreme Court. In the case of Radio Manukau, an appeal may be lodged by other private stations in Auckland, as a delaying tactic.
