Rallying,—Markku Alen, of Finland, won the Portuguese Port Wine Rally, the fourth in the world championship series. Alen. driving a Fiat Abarth, completed the 2289 km rally with its 46 testing special stages ahead of his compatriot. Hannu Mikkola, second in a Ford Escort RSIBOO. Soccer,—Kenny Burns, of Nottingham Forest, has been voted British footballer, of the vear bv members of the Football Writers’ Association. Burns won the annual poll by a comfortable margin from Liam Bradv (Arsenal) and Archie Gemmil (Forest).
