Hit-and-run quest arrest
A middle-aged married man has been arrested in connection with the fatal hit-and-run accident at the comer of Fitzgerald Avenue and Moorhouse Avenue on Friday evening. He will appear in the Magistrate’s Court today. The man is the owner of a blue Bedford van answering the description of one sought by the police after Arnold David Boyce, aged 47, was knocked off his racing bicycle at the intersection at 6.20 p.m. on Friday.
Mr Boyce, the father of three, was taken to Christchurch Hospital but was dead on arrival. The van was found near the intersection of Blenheim Road and Matipo Street yesterday morning. The police questioned the owner, and arrested him in the afternoon. The officer in charge of the inquiry, Sergeant J. E. Dwyer, thanks members of the public who offered information, and helped the police find the van.
