Bowling events benefit Moffat
Fittingly, two bowlers who have frequently partnered Morgan Moffat won a special tournament staged by the Linwood club on Sunday to financially assist Moffat when he represents New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games in August.
They were Kevin Darling, the skip, and Jim Kelly, who played third. The other two members were Fred Hoy and Gary Muirson. The tournament, which drew a full entry of 24 teams, had to be postponed from Saturday to Sunday be? cause of rain. Ray Ward skipped the runner-up team and Jack Dale’s entry was third.
Moffat, himself, finished just behind the main prizewinners with his team of three other national representatives, Mick Boon, Stan Snedden and Wally Wilkinson.
The Linwood women’s section also ran a tournament last week to assist Moffat. It was won by Jean Black’s four of Ngaire Trenberth, Jean Porter, and Iris Wilkie. Two Burwood skips, April McDonald and Alice McFarlane, were second and third respectively. With the proceeds from the tournaments, plus sorship and donations, Lin-' wood has raised a handy sum to off-set any monetary losses Moffat might incur.
